Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some often asked questions related to Home Inspections

This section is comprised of some of the common and not so common questions we've been asked over the years.

  1. Is Professional Home Inspections affiliated with any Home Inspection Associations?
No. In our opinion there really aren't any Home Inspection Industry Associations that are worthy of our membership. At issue is the fact that membership in most of these organizations is open to anyone... including your grandmother if she wants to join, so they are not quite what they appear to be. What we have seen is that a fair number of unskilled Home Inspectors have signed on to promote their businesses under these organizations' banners.
  2. Do Home Inspectors in Canada have to be licenced?
No. The fact is that there is no licensing process for inspectors in Canada. Any inspector is only as good as his personal inspection skills, experience, and construction knowledge and of course the depth of his reporting system or method. Everyone associated with Professional Home Inspections Inc. has a background in construction with many years of experience. Our staff are graduates of the Home Inspectors Institute in Ottawa which only admits individuals who have some true construction experience or are a professional, engineer, electrician, etc. This is the best training program available. - It operates under the direction of Paul Wilson, the most experienced house inspector in the country.
  3. Do you anticipate that the Ontario government will ever force licencing?
We expect the industry to eventually become regulated by the Provinces as it has in some US states, but this will likely not happen for quite a while.
  4. What sort of training do Professional Home Inspections inspectors have?
No. Everyone associated with Professional Home Inspections Inc. has a background in construction with many years of experience. Our staff are graduates of the Ottawa Institute of Property Inspection which only admits individuals who have some true construction experience or are a professional, engineer, electrician, etc. This is the best training program available. - It operates under the direction of Paul Wilson, the most experienced house inspector in the country.
  5. How many Home Inspections has your firm completed?
Within the past 11 years we have completed in excess of 4000 inspections, and several instances of "expert witness" experience.
  6. Where do your clients come from?
Our business is driven by past clients referrals, and repeat business from real estate agents, lawyers, mortgage and property appraisers.
